When Thailand's Top Agarwood Expert Visits AGI’s Farm — And Calls It the Largest He's Seen in the Philippines

Davao del Sur, Philippines — Agarwood Global Inc. (AGI) recently hosted Witsawa Sripetkla, CEO of the Agarwood Learning Center (Thailand) and pioneer of the widely adopted Bamboo Stick Inoculation Method, for a hands-on inoculation demonstration at its plantation in Davao del Sur. The visit marked the first time Witsawa personally conducted an inoculation demonstration on Philippine soil.

During the session, Witsawa introduced “The Witsawa Way”—his proprietary inoculation method—directly to AGI’s plantation operations team. The demonstration was carried out on AGI’s mature agarwood trees, providing practical, field-based instruction on the technique.

AGI currently manages over 18,000 mature agarwood trees, planted as early as 2011–2012, across its plantation sites in Davao del Sur, Sorsogon, and Laguna—alongside millions of nursery-grown seedlings under active management.

“In all my visits to agarwood plantations across Southeast Asia, the AGI plantation in Davao del Sur stands out as the largest I have seen in the Philippines in terms of mature tree population,” said Witsawa Sripetkla. “It is a serious operation, and I am pleased to have conducted my first demonstration in this country here.”

Witsawa also highlighted Aquilaria sinensis—the species cultivated by AGI—as a preferred variety for agarwood production, citing its resin quality, adaptability, and sustained market demand, particularly in China and the Middle East.

The visit was structured as a technical learning session, aimed at equipping AGI’s plantation team with the knowledge and capability to integrate expert-guided inoculation into its long-term operations. The demonstration represents the beginning of AGI’s formal inoculation program, developed in consultation with one of Southeast Asia’s leading practitioners in the field.

The Bamboo Stick Inoculation Method, developed by Witsawa, has been widely adopted across Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, and neighboring countries. The method stimulates the tree’s natural defense response, leading to agarwood resin formation, with observable results typically within 12 to 18 months after inoculation.

AGI operates nursery systems in Davao del Sur, Sorsogon, and Laguna, supplying Aquilaria sinensis seedlings to growers nationwide. All shipments are supported by complete documentation, including a Plant Health Certificate (DA-BPI), a Certificate of Transport Agreement (DENR), and coverage under a Wildlife Culture Permit. AGI also maintains a DTI Certificate of Business Registration and a Mayor’s Business Permit for its operations.

Through its expanding plantation footprint, structured nursery systems, and integration of global expertise, AGI continues to position itself as a leading participant in the development of the agarwood industry in the Philippines. For inquiries on seedling availability and ordering, interested parties may contact AGI through the following:
